Introduction:

This story that I wrote is about “the reader” being left alone (yet again), in this eloquently built estate where the protagonist (the reader) decides to go out and venture into “natures open arms”. The reader is asked to put on pieces of winter clothing, each giving a thought or memory to when they were a child and their parents were around to help them. It is a way to give the reader an introduction to what they are feeling and what this may lead to in the future. That way they do not feel overwhelmed when things become more emotional after some time. After they are geared up and outside, they are asked to choose whether they want to go down an already laid out trail in their woods, or just create their own way through the woods. Depending on which way they choose they end up either at a frozen lake or lost in the middle of nowhere. This is where things get tricky and their memories come to haunt them. It is up to them to decide their fate, making sure loneliness and depression doesn’t take them first. A lot of what this story incorporates is loneliness and depression of not having their parents around to help them through life. Not only that, but I try to touch on the subject that in order to survive, sometimes work must take priority and overshadow the ones you love. Work seems to get in the way of every parent's life, and I wanted to show that at an even greater capacity and how it can negatively affect the ones they love, especially their children. I then worked in the amount of frustration and worthlessness a someone can feel when they are not cared for, or when people are not there for them like they used to be. In each place, or with different smells the reader is reminded of the way things used to be and longs for it to be like that once again. In some ways it might take a large toll on their mental health to the point where going back home is not even an option anymore. Or there may be way to get back home and have a surprise waiting for them that could change their life. Depending on what the reader chooses to do, decides the ending. However, if the reader chooses the wrong path too soon, it might end earlier than expected for them.
